Karen’s story
Karen had a vibrant, inquisitive mind, a passion for knowledge, and a love for adventure. As the ringleader among her siblings, she was always devising new activities and games. From an early age, she knew she wanted to explore the world, which led her to earn a BA in International Relations from George Washington University. She later served as a missionary in Hong Kong, where she met her husband, Scott. After completing her MBA in international business from Brigham Young University, she worked in foreign exchange trading in New York, eventually living in cities around the world, including London, Tokyo, and Singapore.
While raising six children and relocating frequently, Karen never stopped pursuing her passions. Along with earning multiple degrees, including a doctorate in education, she volunteered extensively within her church community. She also ran a successful business exporting Chinese watercolor paintings while living in Singapore. Later, she taught special needs students in Seattle and Beaufort, forming deep bonds with colleagues and students alike. Most recently, Karen fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening a home decor store, Haus Elise European Antiques, in Beaufort, South Carolina.
